The Dolphins were hoping to be able to land offensive tackle Wayne Gandy and wide receiver Ike Hilliard, but both players signed with different teams.Gandy wound up leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers to join the New Orleans Saints, while Hillard re-signed with the New York Giants.
The Dolphins also found out Monday they can forget about kick returner extraordinaire Brian Mitchell because he joined the New York Giants as an unrestricted free agent.
The Dolphins also have lost one of their own free agent, with tight end Desmond Clark signing with Chicago on Saturday.
But the re-signing of Konrad was big. He was perhaps the best in a strong group of free agent fullbacks, and the Dolphins got him back with a four-year deal.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to work with (offensive coordinator Norv Turner for a couple of more years," Konrad said. "It's an offense that I've enjoyed playing in. It's good to finally have this behind me. It's kind of a weight lifted off of my shoulders. I'm looking forward to getting after it this season."
As for Royals, the veteran punter got a one-year deal.
