Porter Gets His Wish
LB Joey Porter

In a move that should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone, the Dolphins said goodbye to Joey Porter on Friday afternoon when they released the veteran linebacker. The announcement came in a one-paragraph statement from the team.

The move came a week after Porter went public with his desire to be released because of his displeasure over the way he was used by the Dolphins in the latter stages of the 2009 season.

The truth, though, is that Porter very well might have been let go even without his tantrum because he was due a $1 million roster bonus on March 9 and also because he was scheduled to make $3.6 million in base salary in 2010.

Those figures simply were too high for a linebacker coming off a season not nearly as impressive as his nine sacks might indicate.
