The two names to keep in mind at this time are Anquan Boldin of the Arizona Cardinals and Antonio Bryant of the Tampa Bay Bucs.We'll see with Bryant, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. According to a published report, the Bucs are not going to place a tag on Bryant, meaning he'll be free to sign with any team he chooses.
Bryant is coming off a mediocre season with the Bucs, but it must be pointed out that he battled a knee injury and also had to deal with ineffective quarterback play.
With Jeff Garcia at quarterback, Bryant was tremendous in 2008 when he caught 83 passes for 1,248 yards and seven touchdowns.
Should Bryant join the Dolphins, he instantly would become the No. 1 receiver on the team and his addition might help the Dolphins be able to focus on other positions in the early rounds of the draft.
Bryant will turn only 29 in March, so he should have several good years left.
Playing in Miami figures to be appealing for Bryant, who was born there.
Of course, some might point out to a dispute Bryant had when he played for Bill Parcells in Dallas, but Bryant has indicated that the two have a good relationship now.
As for Boldin, he's under contract with the Cardinals, but it's believed they would be willing to trade him. It figures a draft pick would land Boldin, but just how high of a draft pick would be required?
Boldin also has had issues with his contract in Arizona, so the chance exists that his contract would have to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Boldin and Bryant stand as the two logical options right now because all the top receivers in free agency will be restricted, meaning their team will have the ability to match any contract offer.
Among that group are guys like Vincent Jackson and Brandon Marshall. Of course, Marshall also could be available in a trade, but he probably would cost more than Boldin and also might be more of a headache than the Dolphins are willing to take on.
So as it stands right now, the Dolphins would be smart to make a push for Bryant.
