Allen Done for the Season

The Dolphins' much-maligned secondary took a major hit in the loss to New Orleans when cornerback Will Allen sustained what was confirmed Monday as a torn ACL. Allen is out for the season and he will be placed on injured reserve this week.

Coach Tony Sparano said Monday he was confident the Dolphins had the pieces in place to replace Allen, and first-round pick Vontae Davis is expected to join fellow rookie Sean Smith in the starting lineup.

Not counting Allen, the Dolphins have eight defensive backs on the roster, so there's a strong possibility they will be checking the waiver wire.

Allen was injured sometime in the third quarter.
