Sheets went undrafted out of Purdue University before hooking up with the San Francisco 49ers.Sheets started 36 of 50 games at Purdue and left as the school's second-leading all-time rusher behind former Tampa Bay Bucs star Mike Alstott.
Sheets, who closed out his career by rushing for 1,161 yards and adding 253 yards on 37 catches, was a touchdown machine at Purdue.
He scored at least 10 touchdowns every year, with a high of 17 in his senior season.
Sheets also did some kickoff returning, although his numbers weren't great.
Sheets has been compared to Seattle Seahawks starter Julius Jones. He's not big at 5-11, 206 and he's not a burner, either.
In fact, Sheets was told by a scout at the Senior Bowl his lack of speed was a concern. Sheets then went out and ran the third-fastest time at the combine among running backs.
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Wednesday that Sheets got a look as a kickoff returner in his first practice with the team.
