Pat White didn't play baseball at West Virginia University, but that didn't stop the New York Yankees from taking the Dolphins rookie in this year's Major League Baseball amateur draft.

The Yankees drafted White in the 48th round on Thursday, marking the fourth time he had been selected in the baseball draft.

White was chosen in the fourth round out of high school by the Los Angeles Angels, when he chose to play football at West Virginia instead; again by the Angels, in the 24th round in 2007; and in the seventh round by the Cincinnati Reds last year.

The Dolphins' first of two second-round picks this year, White has yet to sign with Miami, but it would seem an extremely long shot he would give up on football at this point to pursue a career in baseball.

Who knows, maybe White, a star outfielder in high school, will give a two-sport career a shot, although that also would seem unlikely.

The mere fact he was drafted just indicated what kind of an athlete the Dolphins got, and also provides White with another alternative in case his football career doesn't pan out.
