DYER DEAL

Fullback Deon Dyer may not be a perfect fit for the Dolphins offense because he's more of a blocker than anything else, but the team obviously thinks he's a valuable player. That became evident when they re-signed him to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Dyer had been scheduled to become a restricted free agent this offseason, and the Dolphins would have had the right to match any offer had they tendered a qualifying offer.

But it never got that far, with Dyer becoming the first Dolphins player to be re-signed this offseason.

The former fourth-round pick appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins in 2002 but never touched the ball on offense.

Dyer's blocking ability, however, makes him valuable in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Starting fullback Rob Konrad is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent as well this offseason, but look for the Dolphins to make every attempt to re-sign him, and don't be surprised to see it happen before the start of free agency Feb. 28.
