Camarillo Catching Up
WR Greg Camarillo
WR Greg Camarillo

The Dolphins receiving corps is an unproven commodity made up of young players and a veteran trying to prove he was worth the free agent contract he signed in the offseason. So we should expect some movement in and out of the roster and in the starting lineup as well.

It appears we have just, with Greg Camarillo taking the reps with the first-team offense during Wednesday's practice. Given the fact that the Wednesday practice is the first in preparation for a Sunday game, we almost can deduce that it will be Camarillo in the starting lineup opposite Ted Ginn Jr. for the opener against the Jets.

That would mean a demotion for third-year player Derek Hagan, who is coming off a brutal performance in the preseason finale against New Orleans when he dropped two catchable passes.

Coach Tony Sparano praised Camarillo on Wednesday for his consistency and also for being "quarterback-friendly," meaning Camarillo finds the open spot and offers a big target.

Given the lack of a true difference-maker at wide receiver, it exactly wouldn't surprise to see several different starters at wide receiver this season depending on who's hot at the time.

We certainly could see Ernest Wilford, the veteran free agent acquisition, starting if he can build on his strong showing against New Orleans, which followed a disappointing summer and first three preseason games.

But for the opener at least, it appears it will be Greg Camarillo in the starting lineup. It would be a first for Camarillo, who has appeared in 19 games in two seasons but has never started.
