GM Jeff Ireland confirmed Sunday afternoon the Dolphins had signed Williams to a one-year extension through the 2009 season.Williams initially had been set to become a free agent after the 2008 season.
"Everything we’ve seen since we got here — and it was zero-zero when we got here, Tony (Sparano) said that in the first press conference — he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do," Ireland said. "He’s a player that’s shown he can play; he showed us that he can play, so we didn’t want him to make the free agent market.”
THREE PLAYERS CLAIMED: As we reported earlier Sunday, the Dolphins claimed guard/center Andy Alleman off waivers from New Orleans, but they added two more players to that.
Also claimed off waivers was offensive tackle Nate Garner (N.Y. Jets) and wide receiver Brandon London (N.Y. Giants).
To make room for the three players claimed, the Dolphins released wide receiver Anthony Armstrong, offensive lineman Trey Darilek and linebacker Rob Ninkovich.
