The Dolphins got some good news Monday when veteran linebacker Joey Porter returned to practice. Porter, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Aug. 7, worked on a limited basis, doing individual drills and some seven-on-seven stuff.

"He looked fine," said Coach Cam Cameron. "It's pretty encouraging that he was out there."

Porter will not play in Thursday night's preseason finale at New Orleans, but his returning to practice would seem to make it likely he'll be ready to go for the start of the regular season.

"The knee feels good for the first day being out there trying to do some football stuff," Porter said after practice. "I'm ahead of schedule right now."

In other injury news, offensive tackle Anthony Alabi was held out of practice because he had a little bit of swelling in his right knee. Alabi, who is trying to win the starting right tackle job, had arthroscopic surgery in the offseason.
