Surgery for Porter

Cam Cameron revealed that outside linebacker Joey Porter had knee surgery in Birmingham, Ala., on Tuesday morning, but the Dolphins coach wouldn't reveal other details besides indicating, "We know it's something minor."

Porter's surgery is believed to have been done to remove cartilage from his right knee. The good news from the Dolphins' standpoint is that it was arthroscopic surgery, which shouldn't keep Porter out of the lineup for more than a few weeks.

That said, Porter clearly will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against Jacksonville, and it's not inconceivable he could miss most, if not all, of the preseason.

In Porter's absence, look for Donnie Spragan to line up in the starting lineup at outside linebacker alongside Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder.

Spragan started at that spot last season and was re-signed in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
