Surprise Selection
WR Ted Ginn
WR Ted Ginn

So much for the slam dunk of the Dolphins drafting Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn after he remained available at No. 9. Shoot, there even were reports the Dolphins had talked to Washington about moving up to No. 6 to make sure they wouldn't miss out on Quinn. The Dolphins pulled a big surprise on Saturday when instead they took Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. with their first pick.

ESPN analysts spent almost the entire 13 minutes before the Dolphins' pick talking about Quinn and what a great fit he was for MIami and how the Dolphins were lucky to get a shot to draft him.

Then ... much to the surprise of the folks at the draft in New York and at a draft party at Dolphins headquarters in Davie, the Dolphins took Ginn.

The speedy wideout from Ohio State had slipped on some draft boards in recent weeks because of a foot injury and he certainly wasn't expected to be a top 10 pick anymore. He was at one point considered one of the top prospects in the draft because of his explosiveness, both as a receiver and returner.
