DAY-AFTER REPORT
Leon Searcy
Leon Searcy

Posted Aug 30, 2002

The Dolphins are going to spend some anxious moments on Friday as they await the results of MRI exams on both tight end Jed Weaver and offensive lineman Leon Searcy.

The early outlook on Searcy didn't sound promising, with speculation floating that it could be a season-ending injury, similar to the one that sidelined him all of last season.

Searcy was injured in pregame warmups last night. The injury is to his right arm; it was his left triceps that was injured last year.

"Just knowing how tough he is, I immediately said, 'Uh, oh.,' " tackle Mark Dixon said after Thursday night's game. "For him to not be able to play, it had to be something serious."

As for Weaver, he twisted his left knee during the 24-22 victory over the Chicago Bears, and said afterward the injury felt similar to the time he tore knee cartilage.

Weaver left Thursday night's game under the impression he might have to miss a few weeks.

The injuries could change the look of the 53-man roster.

If Searcy is out for the season, for example, that might allow someone like Troy Andrew to make it to the active roster.

If Weaver is going to be sidelined for a while, the Dolphins might be tempted to keep four tight ends instead of three or three fullbacks instead of the customary two.

The Dolphins were expected to announce some cuts later Friday afternoon, but Coach Dave Wannstedt said he would wait a couple of days before finalizing the 53-man roster.
