"He was not expected to be here today based on his personal issue," Saban said. "I have my word that I have given that -- I don't know what the personal issue is. We know that it is important. We have talked to his attorney and all that. I gave the guy my word that I am not making a public comment about it, so I'm not.
"We were aware of it when we signed him. We knew that this was going to be an issue this week. We didn't know how many days it would take, but it needs to get resolved."
If Wilkinson doesn't play against Buffalo, veteran Jeff Zgonina likely would be the choice to take his place as the backup to nose tackle Keith Traylor.
This is where the Dolphins' depth on the defensive line pays off.
"I feel really comfortable with the defensive line that we have," Saban said. "Jeff Zgonina has a lot of experience. We have 10 on the team right now, so I feel good about some of the other guys being able to come up and play well, if he is not ready to play."
Defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson's status for Sunday's game against Buffalo is very much up in the air. Wilkinson has missed practice all week because of what Nick Saban termed "personal issues."
