RUDDY TO START IF ...

C Tim Ruddy

There were many who thought Tim Ruddy might have lost his starting job at center for good when he had to miss last Sunday's game against the New York Giants. But, based on what Dave Wannstedt said Wednesday, that might not be the case.

Ruddy returned to practice on Wednesday, and Wannstedt said Ruddy would return to his starting post against Jacksonville Sunday if he doesn't experience any problems with his left knee and he can practice on Thursday.

That raised some eyebrows because the Dolphins began rotating Ruddy with second-year player Seth McKinney, a guy the team is very high on.

"He practiced and looked pretty good," Wannstedt said of Ruddy. "Seth has played well, but Tim was playing good until that point and he deserves to start."

Wannstedt then was asked what he liked about Ruddy.

"Tim is smart," the coach said. "He's a guy who knows what it takes to win. That's the reason he's played at a high level for a long time.

"Every year you hear about how we're going to replace him. You've heard that for the last 10 years. He just finds a way to win and get the job done."

If Ruddy does start against Jacksonville, look for him and McKinney to again split time as they did in the games against the Jets and Buffalo.
