The Dolphins made a trade involving a veteran on Friday, but it wasn't the acquisition of offensive tackle Branden Albert from Kansas City but rather sending Davone Bess to Cleveland. That was followed by the Dolphins using their second-round pick on Boise State cornerback Jamar Taylor.

Taylor was taken 54th overall, a pick that was rumored to be potentially involved in a trade for Albert.

That trade isn't dead because the Dolphins used the pick because Miami could simply deal a third-round pick, fourth-round pick or perhaps even a 2014 pick.

For Bess, the Dolphins merely got the opportunity to draft higher in both the fourth and fifth rounds with the Browns and Dolphins swapping spots.

Bess then reportedly signed a three-year extension to a contract that was set to expire after the 2013.

It's quite frankly not a great return for a wide receiver who averaged 64.2 catches in his first five NFL seasons.

On the flip side, Bess' 2012 season ended after 13 games when he was sidelined with a back injury that raised questions because he was never put on injured reserve. Bess also scored only 12 touchdowns in five seasons and averaged 10.5 yards or lower per reception four of five seasons.

As for Taylor, there were some analysts who graded him as a potential first-round pick. The scouting report on him is he's got very good speed and good ball skills, but isn't overly physical.

That's not a major factor in the Dolphins' scheme, which features more zone than press coverage.

The Dolphins still have their two picks in the third round and could target an offensive lineman, tight end or wide receiver.
