Preseason Opponents Set

Carolina QB Cam Newton

In advance of the much-anticipated release of the 2012 NFL regular season schedule, the preseason opponent pairings were announced on Wednesday. The preseason opponents don't change much from year to year, and so it is again in 2012.

In fact, the Dolphins' 2012 preseason opponents will be exactly the same as they were in 2011 — Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa Bay and Dallas.

The meeting against the Bucs will mark the 12th consecutive year the teams have faced each other in the preseason.

Of note in the 2012 preseason announcement is the fact the Dolphins will not have a national televised preseason game and will wrap things up at Dallas for the third consecutive year.

The Dolphins preseason will begin on the weekend of Aug. 9-11 with a home game against Tampa Bay.

The Dolphins then will travel to face Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers on the weekend of Aug. 16-18.

Atlanta then comes to Sun Life Stadium on the weekend of Aug. 23-25, with the finale at Dallas set for Wednesday, Aug. 29 or Thursday, Aug. 30.

The 2012 preseason marks the second season in a row, and just the eighth time in franchise history, that the Dolphins will face an NFC exclusive preseason.

The dates of the games, along with their times, will be announced at a later date.

The regular season schedule is slated to be revealed "later this month," according to an NFL spokesman.
