Not Buying Vick's Vow
Coach Tony Sparano

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano had a hearty laugh when he heard that Eagles quarterback Michael Vick intended to become a more conservative quarterback, and planned to slide more often.

Philadelphia's starting quarterback, who will play his first game since breaking his ribs on Sunday against the Dolphins, said on Wednesday he plans to rely more on his arm than his legs the rest of his NFL career.

Excuse Sparano for getting a chuckle out of Vick's regularly repeated intentions, which rarely come true.

"All I know is that that guy can run really fast and he's a good player and he throws it with such ease when he throws it. He can throw it," Sparano said. "He makes every throw on the run. He's a competitor and when he gets out there you get to competing all that running stuff and not running stuff I think flies out the window."

Vick has rushed for 535 yards on 65 carries. He's averaging 8.2 per scramble but hasn't scored a rushing touchdown. The Dolphins' biggest concern is making sure players are aware of their lane assignments, and not allowing Vick to break containment.

"He's fast, he's quick, he has a strong arm and has some great receivers," safety Yeremiah Bell said of Vick.

The Dolphins' defensive line has been running extra gassers this week to make sure they have the legs, and the wind needed to hunt Vick down.

"You have to go into this game in shape because you're gonna be running," defensive end Kendall Langford said about facing the Eagles.
